This monument was erected in Zemun in 1896 to mark the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian state. The Hungarians built other such millenary monuments elsewhere, in Budapest for example. The present tower was constructed of stone and brick as a vidikovac or viewing tower on the summit of Gardoš Hill. Its architecture shows different styles, with romantic elelents predominating. It is popularly but strongly connected with the historical personality Janos Hunyadi, also known as Sibinjanin Janko. Today the tower houses an art studio.
