Abstract
One of the interesting issues for West Philadelphia might be related to the involvement of local community with innovative and interesting educational program. The program should attract voluntary participation from local people. Therefore it needs to offer not only the instructive pedagogy, but also the enjoyable refreshing moment to people who are living the area, especially to the young generation who will lead the region in the near future. In order to achieve the authentic sustainability for the town, educational program might be the essential element for the future generation.
In this sense, it is beneficial to find other precedent programs all over the world. Anyang Public Art Project (APAP), South Korea, can be one of the interesting precedent program in that it have tried consistently to attract the local community, bringing valuable information of Anyang city. At the same time, in terms of pedagogical form, this instructive project seems to be a sustainable festival, more interactive and dynamic way, not a traditional way of teaching.
Furthermore, this program has encouraged the local artists and architects to involve in the creation of various ideas related to educational events. They heartily tried to find what the unique identity of Anyang city is, distinguished from globalized generic city, and also made a greater effort to share those ideas with local residents. Therefore, in terms of curatorial aspects, in both the local residents and creative educators, it was quite remarkable moment in South Korea.
It is interesting to look into APAP, the overall process from beginning to current success in terms of beneficial education and unprecedented way of sharing information with local people. In addition, to find out the limitation of this program will be good lesson to us for the West Philadelphia’s educational program.
