Syllabuslet

location: The class meets in 32-144 (in the Stata Center, on the Student Street), on Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:15-9:55.
goal: This class is intended to give you a basic grounding in syntax (particularly, syntax in the Minimalist/Principles and Parameters/GB tradition). No background in syntax will be assumed.
textbook: There is no textbook. Readings will occasionally be posted as .pdf files.
assignments: Short written assignments will appear on the website, roughly every week. These are required for students who are taking the course for credit; other students may turn them in if they wish, but for practical reasons we will probably have to grade the assignments of the registered students first. You are encouraged to work together on the assignments, but please write up your own answer. Problem sets may be handed in in hard copy or sent to us as .pdf files. Grades will be based on the problem sets and on class participation.
office hours: Initially, at least, we will not hold formal office hours; please feel free to contact either of us if there's something you'd like to discuss. Like everything else about this class, this policy is subject to discussion and review, so if you feel strongly that office hours would be a good idea, please let us know!
