OEIT staff conducts workshop on inquiry-based learning

October 4, 2013

In early September, Anique Olivier-Mason from the Drennan Education Laboratory visited Southwestern University outside of Austin, Texas and participated in a day filled with inquiry-based learning discussions and then conducted a workshop for faculty on stereotype threat within the sciences.

The trip was organized and funded by the HHMI-Southwestern Inquiry Initiative Program, an effort supported by SU faculty across multiple scientific disciplines that aims to incorporate inquiry-based approaches to teaching science and math, significantly expanding undergraduate research opportunities for all science and math students, and creating an inclusive and diverse scientific community of students and faculty. The discussions and seminar were well received and the faculty appreciated learning new strategies for teaching in a diverse classroom. If other groups are interested in a similar workshop for their faculty, lab or staff, please contact the Drennan Ed Lab at drennanedlab@mit.edu.
