General Information:

Registration:  Sunday, 2:00 pm – 6:00pm

Welcome Reception - Sunday, June 21 - 5:30pm Reception, 7:00pm
                                     Dinner

Lectures:  All lectures will start at 8:30 am in the mornings and 2:00 pm in the afternoons.  The lectures will be held in Gates Hall.

Meals:  Breakfast: 7-8 am.  Lunch: 12:00.  Dinner: 6:30 pm.  All meals will be served in the Dining Hall.

Equipment : The meetings rooms are fully equipped.  There will be a laptop computer in the Conference Room where each participant can upload his presentation. You may either use a USB stick or a CD to transfer your presentation file.  Files must be prepared in .pdf and .ppt (optional) formats.  All presentations for each session must be uploaded before the beginning of the session.  The use of private laptops is discouraged as it uses up valuable time.  In the interests of efficiency, please forward your talks to sbk@mit.edu in advance of the meeting.  If you prefer to use transparencies, please let us know in advance.  Technical help will be available throughout the duration of the Workshop. 

Poster Session: Tuesday, June 23Education Studies Classroom  (Turrets) immediately following dinner.

Excursion (Whale/Puffin Watch boat trip): Wednesday, June 24 - 8:30am on the Catamaran Friendship V – Harbor Place, 1 West Street, Bar Harbor, ME – less than a mile from the College.  Maps will be provided if you prefer to walk. Boarding Time 8:15am - Departure Time 8:30am - Return Time 12:30pm. Dress warmly and bring a picture ID. Price is $32 for accompanying guests.

Buses will depart College of the Atlantic to the boat at 7:30am.  Buses will return to the College immediately following disembarkation from the boat. If you decide to drive your own car, you should know that parking is at a premium. Public lots have a 3 hour maximum (the whale watch is over 4 hours). Early in the morning, there should be on-street parking near the ferry dock (1 West Street, Bar Harbor).

Banquet – Lobster Bake: Thursday, June 257:00pm.  In the Dining Hall at the campus of the College of the Atlantic.

Lodging:  The College is offering two dormitory lodging options: Blair/Tyson House and the Davis Residence Village. These rooms are individual rooms except for people with accompanying persons. All keys must be left in the  rooms on departure. (Please see Accommodations). There are also many off-site hotels within a one-mile radius.

Network Access: Internet connection is available at the College and in the dormitories. Computers must be registered in advance of arrival at the College.

Public Computer Room:  Kaelber Bldg. downstairs.  Hours will be posted.

Conversation/Meeting Room:  Deering CommonA beautiful, historic building, directly on the ocean.  Open daily 9:00am – 7:00pm.
 
Library:   Summer hours only (afternoons)

Parking:  Visitor parking is allowed only in designated parking areas, i.e. parking lots.  Visitors may not park on lawns.  A map will be provided at Registration.

Accompanying Persons: There will not be a program for accompanying guests.  During registration there will be booklets provided which contain maps and information about Bar Harbor, Mt. Desert Island and the surrounding area. 
 
Pets: Pets are not allowed on COA property or in any of the buildings or dorms.

Smoking: Smoking is not permitted in any of the buildings.

Gym/Fitness area:  There are no workout facilities at the College.
