The Make Impact Consortium was active from the FALL OF 2017<\/strong> through the SUMMER OF 2023<\/strong>, encompassing 13 member universities across 4 continents. This site remains available for reference and to serve as a consortium archive. The consortium has now concluded its programming, events, and member activities and is no longer accepting new members.<\/strong> Please visit the Higher Education Makerspaces Initiative (HEMI)<\/a> for more information on academic makerspaces and organizations supporting making in a higher education context.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Make Impact Consortium supported Design, Innovation, Makerspace and Entrepreneurship<\/strong> programs on campuses around the world.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Organizing design challenges, seminars, workshops, and other interactive and collaborative activities, the Consortium helped schools, helped their students, Make Impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through collaborations with industry partners, foundations, government, NGO, and other public sector and not-for-profit organizations, the Consortium ensured that students address real-world issues, while building in-demand skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global networking. Leveraging leading practices. Fostering innovation, and accelerating economic development on and near campuses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are key elements of the wider purpose of the Make Impact Consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Marty Culpepper – MIT Maker Czar, Director of MIT Project Manus:<\/strong> Marty Culpepper, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, is MIT’s first Maker Czar. He is passionate about all aspects of making and breaking as demonstrated in his 2.72 class where the student teams spend the semester building desktop lathes. Professor Culpepper is the recipient of an NSF Presidential Early Career Award, two R&D 100 awards, a TR100 award and a Joel and Ruth Spira Teaching Award. He is not one to be afraid of getting his hands dirty. His favorite maker tools are mills and waterjets, though he’s become fond of glass blowing. <\/p> <\/td><\/tr>
