Six Easy Pieces

The title refers to the six different types of chess pieces. There is one square on the board from which a Queen could see the letters Q, U, E, E, N using a queen-like move from that square. Similarly for each of the other pieces and their names -- K, I, N, G and P, A, W, N are necessarily close to each other, given the limited range of movement of those pieces, which represent useful places to break in. The flavortext is also helpful, though not critical. The six pieces are standing on the squares M, E, N in the third row from the top and T, A, L in the seventh row from the top, spelling the solution MENTAL.
