Ocean Data Sets

Satellite altimetry

  1. Aviso page on Topex/Poseidon and Jason-1 Aviso is a French-funded group that connects output from both satallite and produces high-level data products

  2. Ocean Topography from Space (JPL/NASA) Central source of info and data from Jason-1 and Topex/Poseidon satellites. (see also article about seals and ocean models : )

  3. Scripps page on Topex See links on left about Radar Altimetry and Global Topography - there is plenty of information here about gravitational anomalies, the geoid, and measuring ocean floor topography

Ocean Color from Satellites

  1. Seawifs NASA page on the Seawifs satellite

  2. CSIRO Remote Sensing Project Comparison of ocean color measurments from Seawifs and ocean sea surface temperature measurements

Hydrography and other data

  1. Ocean Data View Software that allows direct access to and processing of oceanographic datasets, such as World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) and World Ocean Atlas (WOA) data (see link to "Data" on left)

  2. CLIVAR and carbon hydrographic data office Source of hydrography datasets from WOCE, CLIVAR and others.

  3. NOAA's World Ocean Database Site for distribution of hydrography datasets from NOAA

  4. Gouretski and Kotermann 1/2 x 1/2 degree gridded WOCE data Excellent hydrography data that is objectively analysed onto a grid. Data is extrapolated where missing in such a way to ensure local buoyant stability.

  5. IRI/LDEO Data Portal Excellent source for ALL kinds of datasets for ocean, atmosphere and climate

Data-assimilation

  1. Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean (ECCO)

  2. Real Time Ocean Environment Naval Research Labs site that incorporates data from Topex/Poseidon, ERS-2 and Geosat into data-assimilation output from the Naval layered ocean model
