The Jargon of Computer Systems

by J. H. Saltzer, March 9, 1996

Hosed. (Probably from experience in demonstrations of the 1960's in which police sometimes used firehoses to disperse crowds.) To grossly overload a network server or gateway with requests. Usage: "Those turkeys at the telephone company muddled their routing tables and hosed our gateway."
