Eric McDonald

See why I'm turned at such an awkward angle.

My Research

I received my S.M. degree from the EECS department at MIT. My research work was with the Concurrent VLSI Architecture (CVA) group under the supervision of Bill Dally. I focused on the design, fabrication, and testing of a scalable, distributed frame buffer for the J-Machine. My multi-board system permits the J-Machine to display multi-buffered, high-resolution 24-bit graphics at a substantial bandwidth.

My other research interests include:

Parallel computer architecture
Computer networks
Computer graphics and special effects
Microprocessor architecture

I have also been a Teaching Assistant for 6.041, 6.033, and 6.111.

My Hobbies

Bodybuilding

Yes, I spend all my free time at the gym and still have a life!

Bodysurfing

I lied...I don't spend all of my time at the gym. I also spend a lot of it trying to tame the mighty Pacific.

TV Production

Among other TV projects, I created and co-hosted a weekly Star Trek call-in talk show called Stay Tuned.

My Background

I'm originally from New England, having grown up in Revere, MA. That's right, I grew up in "severe Revere" (pronounced "seh-vee-ah Ree-vee-ah") and I'm not even Italian.

When I lived in New England, I was a pretty active member (a "safety") in the Guardian Angels street patrol. Since that time, the Boston chapter has already folded once and been resurrected again.
