+++ title = "Accessing the NAS" +++ This is a quick guide on how to access the NAS. Please note that you can only do this while connected to the campus network and you should be on a Mac computer. > Open Finder > Go > Connect to Server > nfs://sctv-nas.mit.edu/Multimedia > Connect Occasionally, we've had difficulty with a good connection when computers are behind a firewall. If the above isn't working for you (you can connect but it's really slow to open a file, etc.) then try: > Open Finder > Go > Connect to Server > smb://sctv-nas.mit.edu > Connect It will ask you for a username (sctv) & password (student cable) and which volume you want to connect to (Multimedia). ## HOW TO NAVIGATE THE SCTV NAS: (this is also the README.txt once you've connected to the NAS.) Put files in the Multimedia drive depending on its use. When in doubt, put it under [Personal]->[YOUR KERBEROS]. If you can't find your footage, look in [Orphaned Footage]. When making a new folder, always make sure to right click > Get Info > Sharing & Permissions and give 'Everyone' the permission to 'Read & Write.' ### Footage: * If it is specific to one project -> put it in [YYYY-MM-DD NAME] inside the correct yearly folder. * If it is generic / b-roll / useful to many projects in the future -> put it in [B-roll and SCTV Media]->[DESCRIPTIVE TITLE]. ### Projects: * If it is a project (FCP, Premiere, AE, etc.) that multiple people need to access -> put it in [YYYY-MM-DD NAME] inside the correct yearly folder. That is, put it with the footage. * If it is a project (FCP, Premiere, AE, etc.) that only you need to access, put it in [Personal]->[YOUR KERBEROS].
