Han Shu received his S.B., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He participated in 6-A Co-op program at BBN's Speech and Language group. While there, he worked on automatic recognition of "what city?" queries, duration modeling, face recognition using hidden Markov models, large vocabulary conversational Mardarin speech recognition, and information retrieval based directory assistance. His master thesis, "on-line handwriting recognition using hidden Markov models" was jointly supervised by Prof. John Makhoul and Prof. Victor Zue. His research interests include statistical modeling for speech recognition.
