Firstly, I am grateful to the great work done by the past SMAAC committee members and I am proud to say that I am one of the beneficiaries who has been impressed and blessed by their great work. The 7th Management Committee will strive to continue in organising activities to facilitate networking, enriching and bonding the SMA alumni. Our specific objective for this term will be to leverage upon the solid foundation laid by club's predecessors, to further expand SMAAC network and make SMAAC as effective as it can be to bring practical benefits to its members and alumni.
After the formation of SMAAC Executive Committee and five functional committees, the committee has already confirmed the plan for an exciting Event Calendar year. Two activities have already been successfully organised and launched. The alumni has enjoyed a fun and interactive BBQ Social Night, participated in badminton workshops and are looking forward to more exciting and fun events, covering areas of Education, Community Service and Social events, with our very own SMAAC Annual Anniversary Dinner and Dance as the highlight of the year.
Apart from organising activities and events, we will be taking an active role in the club's growth and development, with a focus on cultivating the SMAAC culture – ‘A Serving Heart and Spirit’ among the current students while at the same time, attracting and motivating more SMAAC alumni to join our family. We are exploring better ways of contact tracing and reaching out to more alumni, by leveraging on our club resources and expertise, e.g. SMAAC webpage and forum, to build a stronger brand name for SMAAC.
While we envisage growing the club into a more professional body, we still want to retain the family-like spirit, where members bond with each other in a very personal way. We hope SMAAC will be a great avenue for you to find and stay in touch with old friends, to make new ones and stay connected to SMA, an alma mater we all cherish.

SMAAC 7th Management Committee
The 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the SMA Alumni Club was held on Saturday, May 26th 2007 at NUS, Meeting room E4-04-07. The outgoing 6th Management Committee President, Mr. Kek Sei Wee, wrapped up the term in 2006/2007, before paving way for the election of the 7th Management Committee for 2007/2008.
The first 6th MC event went underway on 29th July 2006 at Bukit Batok Civil Service Club, a Bowling cum Barbecue event that lasted from the afternoon till late. This event saw a strong turnout of 53 participants, particularly from the fresh intake of SMA students. This was closely followed by a Community Service event that was hosted at Labrador Beach on 23rd September 2006. It is one of the smallest beach on mainland Singapore, but rich in heritage and bio-diversity. It was these reasons that prompted the SMAAC to organize a coastal cleanup. After the cleanup, the participants enjoyed a picnic of sandwiches where friends were made and acquaintances were renewed. 30 SMAers and their guests turned up at East Coast Park to participate in the Night Cycling Event on the night of December 9, 2006, organized by the Health and Fitness Committee. The pack stopped for supper at Lau Pa Sat, before finishing at West Coast Park in the early morning. There was also a Retirement Planning Talk held on 20th January 2007 as part of the series of Financial Workshops held by the Education subcommittee. The club also organized dance classes and presented a Career Talk for graduating students during the year.
Apart from the periodic events held, the club also marked milestones on club development. The official club website (http://singaporemitalliance.org/ ) was launched. It is a portal where the SMA Community can share their views, browse event photographs and get the latest news on SMAAC. SMAAC also launched our club merchandise, which enjoyed brisk sales upon their introduction.
The eventful year draws to memorable close as SMAAC organized our inaugural Annual Dinner & Dance to celebrate the relationships within our Alumni, Faculty, and the Industry. This first D&D homecoming was themed “Around The World”, and it took place on Saturday, March 31, 2007 on board Cruise Ship, Cheng Ho III.
The past term was a year that marked many firsts for SMAAC, and the committee is proud of our achievements. All committee members were deservingly rewarded to a team building retreat in Bintan in recognition of the completion of an immensely satisfying year. The 6th Management Committee had achieved more than what we originally seek out to do, and we are encouraged that our efforts were very well received by the SMA Community.
The election of the 7th Management Committee went smoothly and the core committee members were being elected. We believe that the Management Committee is growing from strength to strength and we look forward to your continued support to bring SMAAC to the new heights!
