Japanese Names

1. Japanese Names:
In formal situations, Japanese people usually call each other
by their last names, NOT by their first names.
Attach -san ('Mr./Ms./Miss') to one's last name.
For instance:
- Mr. Tanaka: Tanaka-san
- Ms. Kato: Katoo-san
- Miss. Yamamoto: Yamamoto-san
Recently, however, people (in particular, young people) start
calling each other by their first names.
And, many foreigners in Japan ask Japanese people to call
them by their first names,
following the western customs.
2. When calling all children or teenagers, we very often
use first names.
For girls, use -san (or -chan
for small children).
For boys, use -kun(or -chan
for small children).
