Toastmasters Awards
Toastmasters International offers a number of awards to members who take steps toward improving their communication and leadership skills. If you hear acronyms like CTM, ATM, or DTM, the speaker is probably referring to one of these awards. Award criteria include completing projects from one or more manuals, which are described at the bottom of this page. The following chart outlines the requirements for each award.
COMMUNICATION TRACK

COMPETENT COMMUNICATOR (CC)
REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed the Communication and Leadership Program Manual

ADVANCED TOASTMASTER BRONZE (ATM-B)
REQUIREMENTS

  • Achieved Competent Communicator award
  • Completed two Advanced Communication and Leadership Program manuals

ADVANCED TOASTMASTER SILVER (ATM-S)
REQUIREMENTS

  • Achieved new Advanced Toastmaster Bronze award or achieved current ATM award
  • Completed two additional advanced manuals (may not be those completed for the new ATM Bronze award or Able Toastmaster award)
  • Conducted any two programs from The Better Speaker Series and/or The Successful Club Series

ADVANCED TOASTMASTER GOLD (ATM-G)
REQUIREMENTS

  • Achieved new Advanced Toastmaster Silver award or Able Toastmaster Bronze award
  • Completed two additional advanced manuals (may not be those completed for new ATM Bronze and ATM Silver awards or Able Toastmaster and Able Toastmaster Bronze awards)
  • Conducted a registered Success/Leadership Program, Success/Communication Program (Success/Leadership or Success/Communication programs may not be those completed for Able Toastmaster Bronze award) or a registered Youth Leadership Program
  • Coached a new member with the first three speech projects

LEADERSHIP TRACK

COMPETENT LEADER (CL)
REQUIREMENTS

  • Achieved Competent Toastmaster award
  • Served at least six months as a Club officer (President, Vice President Education, Vice President Membership, Vice President Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer, or Sergeant at Arms) and participated in the preparation of a Club Success Plan.
  • While a Club officer, participated in a District-sponsored Club officer training program
  • Conducted any two programs from The Successful Club Series

ADVANCED LEADER (AL)
REQUIREMENTS

  • Achieved Competent Leader award
  • Served a complete term as a District officer (District Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Public Relations Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, Division Governor, or Area Governor)
  • Completed the High Performance Leadership program
  • Served successfully as a Club Sponsor, Mentor, or Specialist

DISTINGUISHED TOASTMASTER (DTM)
REQUIREMENTS

  • Achieved Advanced Toastmaster Gold award
  • Achieved Advanced Leader award Distinguished Toastmaster is the highest recognition a member may receive.

If you wish, Toastmasters International will notify your employer when you receive any of the above awards.


Toastmasters Manuals
Communication and Leadership Program Manual:
This is the starting point for new members; it includes a series of 10 speeches which allow you to work on oral presentation skills including managing nervousness, using gestures and vocal intonations.

Advanced Communication and Leadership Program Manual:
This program allows members who have achieved their CC to hone their skills on other aspects of oral presentations, like humorous speaking, storytelling, and interpretive reading.

The Better Speaker Series programs:
In this program, you make speeches on practical tips on public speaking. Scripts available through Toastmaster international include: Beginning Your Speech, Concluding Your Speech, Take the Terror Out of a Talk, Impromptu Speaking, Selecting Your Topic, Know Your Audience, Organizing Your Speech, Creating an Introduction, and Preparation and Practice.

The Successful Club Series programs:
Here you make speeches about what members can do to make their Club successful. Scripts available
include: The Moments of Truth, Finding New Members for Your Club, Evaluate to Motivate, Closing the Sale, Creating the Best Club Environment, Meeting Roles and Responsibilities, Mentoring, Keeping the Commitment, and Going Beyond Our Club.

High Performance Leadership program:
This is a five-project program that offers instruction and practice in vital leadership skills and activities like developing a mission and vision, goal-setting and planning, identifying values, and building a team. The program requires you to assume a leadership role in your company, community or Toastmasters Club or District. A Guidance Committee (selected by you) offers advice and evaluates your efforts.
