The morning after July 4, 2002.
Went to see MIIB later that
day. It's amazing how short they can get away with making movies
these days.
I walk that bridge just
about every day (they say the subzero winter wind on the river is good
for the complexion). Work on one side, live on the other. Run bridge loops for
the fun of it. Simple
life. One of these days I'll pick up a car.
Sometimes when I'm running late I think I'll save a few minutes by
hopping on the red line. Only
about 15 trains pass me on the way over when I'm trying to listen to
some music. More in inclement weather. It never
works. There's a sensor at Charles that knows I'm on the platform
sending all the trains in the opposite direction until I'm late. I still do
it for some reason. Sorry I'm late (again), the train to take me
one stop didn't show up. Ever notice that people who live very
far away show up to work really early?
I have the best commute on the planet. I tried the metro north-4/5 train
thing and it's no contest. Besides, Boston didn't have Robert Moses to pave all
the good spots. Every time I want to stop paying stupid rent and own
something that I could really screw up I wind up restricting myself to
within a few blocks from where I am. On a university salary I can't
afford much more than a shoebox on Beacon Hill. The
dot crash hasn't helped. Then again
I have expensive hobbies. Maybe I'll paint instead.
