Sunset in Key West.

Life has its rough spots but you have to show some grit and get through it.

Vijay trying to look interested.

Although I've traveled to Florida countless times, I had never been down to the Keys. Key West is a pretty cool place. Beaches, boats and bars. General mellowing out. The day of the week matters little and the only time of day people seem to care about is is sunset.

Sunset in Key West is a group event where the tourists come together to take part in the daily ritual of beholding this colorful spectacle while singing the praises of being somewhere else. Say goodbye to those unfortunates leaving for home. It's February so the winter great circle route says I won't be going back home. At least not right away. It's the Olympics afterall. Until then more laps around Duval St.

But this of course was business. We sit in a meeting room overlooking the water discussing programmer interfaces for OKI. Whatever.

View off my balcony.

I always wind up being different, even when I don't try to be. I think it's largely because I don't try to put as much thought into things as other people do. This goes with trip planning. Making hotel reservations the night before when all hotels are booked means you don't get to stay with everyone else. Sounding lame to travel agents helps. I had to put up with a nicer hotel and a waterfront room in exchange with having to walk along the beach to get to the meetings.

The island is small enough such that cruise ships are towering but large enough so you won't feel like falling off. The island accomodates an 8 mile running circuit though you can probably squeeze in 10.

A lot of history there. The Truman Little White House was a highlight. Poker anyone?

Judy making fast friends with the locals.

There's always one in every crowd.

Taking a break off Route 1.

Enough of sun and sand. Gotta go!

I had decided to take a small road trip by flying into Miami. I drove down during sunset but it also meant I had to drive the causeway back to fly out. It's a cool drive if you are not in a hurry otherwise the 2 lanes can be really frustrating. There are all sorts of Keys of varying sizes and shapes. They did manage to fix the really long bridge after Arnold blew it up.

How I look forward to security with all these gadgets.
