About Morse Pad
==============
Morse Pad is a simple "Text to Morse to Text" program.  It allows for manually
input text to be sent in Morse Code at various speeds and frequencies.  This
program can be used as a practice device or as just another gadget to have
handy during those long QSO parties.

Installing Morse Pad
====================
Please consult your documentation for NPI (Newton Package Installer), NCU
(Newton Connection Utilities), or any similar Newton Package installer
application.  Using an application supporting Newton Package installation,
download the file (MorsePad.pkg) on to your Newton device.

Using Morse Pad
===============
After downloading the package on to your Newton device and placing it in a
folder, select the folder and click on the Morse Pad icon. The program will
open as a floating display.

Entering a word or phrase in the top "Text" window allows for conversion into
morse code or for the original text to be sent in morse code via the speaker.
Conversion into morse code is accomplished by clicking the "T->M" button.
This will display the morse code equivalent of the original text in a
(somewhat obscure) numeric representation.

Entering a morse code pattern will allow for the conversion of Morse Code to
plain text.  Entering morse is accomplished by either directly writing the
morse code pattern in the "Code" window, or by using the ".", "-", "/", and
"del" buttons found below the "Code" window.  Characters are to be separated
by a "/" character, and words are to separated by a "//" pattern.  In order
to minimize recognition problems within the "Code" window, entring can be
accomplished using a "numeric" representation.  Use "0" for a "/", "1" for
a ".", and a "2" for a "-".  Morse Pad is able to handle any combination of
numeric representations or "." and "-" characters.

Between the two input windows are three buttons.  From left to right, they
are the "Text to Morse" button, the "Send" button, and the "Morse to Text"
button.  The "send" button will only read the contents of the "Text" window.

Below the "Morse Code" window are two pickers.  The first is to select how
fast (or how many words per minute) Morse Pad will send its text.  The
currently available selections are 5, 10, 15, and 20 words per minute.  I
can't seem to get the Newton to transmit cleanly, consistently, and to a
degree that I deem acceptable at rates faster than 22 words per minute.

Below the 'Words per minute' picker is the 'Frequency' picker.  The current
selections available are 440, 500, 820, 880, 1000, 1760, and 2000 Hz.  Since
this is a morse code app, I didn't find it necessary to allow for a fully
selectable frequency range.

Finally, there are two smaller buttons on either ends of the bottom corners.
The left is the 'Info' button and the right is the close button.  Pressing
the close button will close the program, while pressing the info button will
allow access to the About button, which in turn opens the about box.

Removing Morse Pad
==================
Open the folder that the program is stored in and simply scratch-out the
program icon... may you never find a need for this procedure.

Legal Stuff

Morse Pad is freeware.  The distribution of this program must not include any
fees not directly associated to shipping or media costs for the distribution
process.  If you would like to include this program in a commercially
available collection or package, please contact the author and ask for
permission first!  Any form of distribution for this program must include (or
made easily available) the following unmodified files:

      1. MorsePad.pkg    The Newton Package file.

      2. MorsePad.txt    The text file documentation.

                      - OR -

         MorsePad.doc    The MS Word documentation.

*** This means providing the package and at least one form of documentation.
