Avi's Backdrop 1.22 Last Update: 10/12/98

Avi's Backdrop is a backdrop application for Newton devices with OS 2.1 (which means a MP2000, MP2100, or eMate 300). Advantages? It's small (15K), it's fast, it takes up little heap, and it's free.  This backdrop program includes many features and options including Anniversary and Birthday warnings and a great 10061 error work-around! AutoContrast 1.01 Last Update: 10/09/98

AutoContrast 1.01 helps stabilize the Newton's contrast settings via temperature control. The latest version fixes a bug in the background calculations of the package and increases performance of the contrast conditions temperature assessment. Since screen contrast may vary by room temperature, this package will make contrast adjustments for temperature automatically.  Credit: Richard C.L. Li.

SBM Services 3.0.2 Last Update: 10/05/98

SBM Services, a freeware tool to help Newton users further customize entries in Names, Owner info and other menu options. Defaults and definitions may be set for: Email services, Credit card types, Pager types, Phone types. The latest version features management of several telephone providers, automatic selection of cheapest provider per connection and a fully integrated Newton user interface. To update from 3.0 scrub out 'Services' from the extras drawer and answer 'No' to the question for deleting the data too. Secret 2.13 Last Update: 10/05/98

Secret offers fast and true DES encryption for Newton Notes. As long as you never forget your encryption password, you'll love this app.   After installing you will find a little "lock" button in your Notes options bar. In addition the action picker will be extended by 'Protect' and 'Unprotect'. These are present only if the selected note is unlocked.  The lock in the button line shows the state of the notes application. If it is locked, the notes marked with 'Protect' are not available. To open the Note, simply tap on the lock button and enter your password. This is a 30 day demo. The latest version fixed an empty strings as passwords problem.   Secret may also perform OwnerInfo encryption. Credit: Softwarebüro Müller.

After installing this little application, you can change some undocumented options - like freeze - on Newton 2.x systems.  The latest update includes Backlight at Power On and more flexible battery low warnings.  A full features list includes the ability to: change the amount of the subsequently correctable words, set the number of clipboards to more than one, activate Freezing to save heap space, set Undo-Redo default instead of Undo-Undo, close Extras always after opening.    NOTE: After installing you can find Options in the extras folder "Setup" by tapping "Preferences".  Credit: Softwarebüro Müller.

Simple Mail 3.1.1 Last Update: 10/05/98

SimpleMail is a Newton e-mail transport that lets you send and receive messages over the internet using POP/SMTP. It uses the Newton Internet Enabler (NIE 1.1 or NIE 2.0), so it will only work with Newton 2.0 or better. See the included version history for new update features. DinoCrypt 1.1 Last Update: 10/01/98

Dino Crypt is a simple package which allows Newton users to en- and decrypt text on the MessagePad. Users simply select the text to encrypt, then click Encrypt Selection on the Button Bar. Decryption is just as simple, and is password enabled. In the latest release, the window where the decrypted text is shown closes after 20 seconds automatically.
