Intermediate Technology Development Group (ITDG)
ITDG is an international non-governmental organisation which specialises in helping people to use technology for Practical Answers to Poverty.

It was founded in 1966 by the radical economist Dr EF Schumacher to prove that his philosophy of ‘Small is Beautiful’ could bring real and sustainable improvements to people’s lives.

ITDG is a charity registered in the United Kingdom which works directly in four regions of the developing world – Latin America, East Africa, Southern Africa and South Asia, with particular concentration on Peru, Kenya, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

In these countries, ITDG works with poor communities to develop appropriate technologies in food production, agroprocessing, energy, transport, small enterprise development, shelter, small-scale mining and disaster mitigation.

Lessons from ITDG’s grassroots experience are spread through consultancy services, publishing activities, education, policy and research, and through an international technical enquiries service.

http://www.wateraid.org.uk/

Wateraid is an international non-governmental organisation in the global drinking water sector established by the UK water industry in 1981, based in London with its first projects in Sri Lanka and Zambia. It works today in 15 countries in Asia and Africa through local partner organisations and occasionally governments to help local communities build and maintain water and sanitation projects. This development agency is supported by the British government, the EU and the Department for International Development (DfID).
Wateraid has identified a five-year strategy 2000-2005 consisting of 5 strategic aims: provision of safe water and sanitation, advocacy, fundraising, communication and decentralized management. It publishes Oasis magazine twice a year featuring overseas work, the latest news and campaign updates.
