This model becomes 3d in a different way than previous hex pleated models—instead of having vertices that are intentionally not flat foldable, the base is completely flat and then the pleats in the belly are swung open. Interestingly, I got the idea after seeing some ai generated images of “origami” birds, in which the bellies almost always looked like this to achieve a round shape through origami.
