This design is mainly an example of grafting, which can be seen in the strip running from the top left to the bottom right of the square. This extra paper allows the middle sail to be taller, and allows enough room to shape a head at the front of the boat. Otherwise, the model is just a sunken bird base.

(note: I don't remember the exact reference for the graft. If you want to fold it, eyeballing it works just fine in my opinion)
