YU-WEN LIN

My first visit was with my group: Chung, May, Suvarna, and Felipe...we went on our bikes and spent about four hours there...

In the beginning I thought that this site will be like a bad suburb...in bad condition...and the people not very friendly...I thought they will give me a lot of shock....

It's not as terrible as I expected...and I feel that the people are kind...most of the street blocks are not as bad as I expected...in Taiwan there is a lot more people living in far worse conditions...

Taiwan is a narrow island...not enough space...here people have their own lawn space...but the condition of the buildings here changes sometimes within two blocks...this wouldn't happen in Taiwan...

Taipeng's downtown is a mix of business and residential areas...a lot of the rich people live downtown but many also live in the suburbs...poor people live downtown too but far away...same with the suburbs...and the living conditions there are totally different...there are no parks...no lawns...

There are more and more people concerned about the state of the poorer districts...groups organize but mostly middle class...this is not designed by the government...a lot of universities do this type of projects...deal with the poorer areas...sometimes it doesn't work...

This studio is similar to those projects in Taiwan...I think that all of us will try our best and that it's a good opportunity for the students...but this kind of thing is not very successful...I wonder if it will work...
