NOH SURIYACHAN

My first visit to the site was during the week of the nine page exercise...I went with Pong on our bicycles...we stayed for about an hour...
Ann told us about the vacant land...the creek...that sometimes you can hear it under the road...when I went I tried to listen but I didn't hear it...she was right about being able to see the topography...the obvious low points...and yes, it's the same like she said that one block can be frightening but the next one might be nice...
I came here three months ago from Thailand...it's different than I expected because almost everything is the same...before this I came five years ago as a tourist...with my father and uncle...I have a sister at the University of Ohio...she came to travel with us...there is nothing interesting to see in Ohio she said...we went to Florida San Francisco and Niagara Falls...we stayed in Boston with my cousin...
I met Pong at the airport...we are both from Bangkok but we didn't know each other...I won the same scholarship as Pong and the lady told us about each other...we made reservations for the same flight to Philadelphia...
I expected everything to be beautiful and some places here are dirty like in my country...I already knew about the contrast in income levels but I was surprised how they live together or within blocks of each other...I was surprised to see something that looks like grass but it is like a green carpet...
Some blocks were quite frightening and Pong said not to go to those blocks but we rode by quickly...rode by a group of guys and just looked ahead when passing...I didn't feel that they were looking at us...just talking together...actually I only felt frightened where those guys were...I didn't feel good about the place...I felt that it's not cared for by the government...
I think this topic for the studio is interesting...there are many particular things to focus on like history... why people built the road over the creek...how people live together rich and poor...how it can be improved...how to develop the vacant land...
Some parts of this place are not very different...but this area is arranged differently...by the blocks...in my country it's one line and the neighborhoods are divided into cul de sacs...the rich live in the center but some poor too because in the past it was vacant land and the poor people built homes there and now it's difficult to get them out...if you build a house on vacant land and the owner doesn't come for four, five years it becomes yours...my father has a farm and some people built a house on his land and started to cultivate the land...he wants to sell the land but these people don't want to move...there are laws to protect them...my father is waiting for them to move right now...
