Abstract:
My first experience in the Mill Creek district took place in a car. I drove around following the set starting and ending points. I didn't know what I was mapping yet, so John and I drove around looking at the neighborhood in general. I noticed immediatly, and commented to John, that some of the homes had some sort of landscaping and many didn't. The community garden seemed to be the center of this. When I returned to the site and walked the route with Steve and John I mapped this phenomena. On this walk I talked to a community gardner and found out there are seven community gardens between 40th and 55th streets. The other projects include block projects where planter boxes or street tree planters are given to the residents. Pockets surrounding the community gardens exist where group effort to improve the neighborhood exist.
