Kahlima Bess | Outdoor Water Classroom |
706 N.46th st. |
Our group proposes to make the Mill Creek community a better place to live. Our first site is at 47th and Aspen streets. There is serious flooding in the intersection and it causes the sewage to back up into the north and south lunchrooms of the Mater Sulzbereger Middle School. The class proposal will include a water play area and an outdoor water classroom at Mayer Sulzberger.
The planting design and detailing of pavements, walls, and water edges should reveal and respond to water flow and changing water levels. The water garden classroom will serve as a part of our ongoing achievement. I selected a design plan to make it a better place.
The area for improvement is located from 47th Street, south of Brown Street to north of Fairmount Avenue, and also Aspen Street west to 46th Street. The water garden will be a holding place for storm water run-off. A portion of the water classroom will have water all the time. The area must have a fence and gates which can be locked and unlocked. There are many diseases outside dirty areas such as meningitis, small pox, and chicken pox. To make 47th and Aspen Streets a better place, serious consideration will be given to directin as much water run-of as possible into the garden. From the sewage it is used for watering plants. We will put a sprinkler up for little children to play in so they can cool off in the summer. Their parents can sit on the benches to enjoy the shade on a hot summer day or they can go in the sprinkler, too. We want to change how people are constantly graffitying and leaving nasty trash in the intersection. We need to stop this. Thank you for your cooperation.
