Hello, my name is Latoya Hackney. I am a student of section 281 at Sulzberger Middle School. I wanted to develop a proposal for revealing water and restoring water in the Mill Creek community, at the Aspen site. There is a serious problem we have with flooding and backed up sewage.
In my proposal, I wanted to have included a design for an outdoor room at Sulzberger Middle School. The area for more development and design is located on 47th, south of Brown Street, to north of Fairmount Avenue, and also, Aspen Street at the intersection of 47th street to west of 48th Street. The Indians had foot paths to travel. There were no more Indians living there after 1750. You can still see the evidence in the landscape of their occupation. Places in Philadelphia have Indian names, such as Wyalusing. Wyalusing means "home of the old warriors", because the roads cross to the old Tammany. Schuykill means "the noisy stream". Now, these days, there are no Indians. On Lancaster Avenue there are stores. We don't see animals running around. There are no teepees. In 1750 the creek was on Lancaster Avenue. Now it is under the ground. |
