What I Learned about Mill Creek

Hello. My name is Lanna Williams. Throughout this school year, my classmates and I have been working with three groups of Penn students about the Mill Creek area. The first group of Penn students talked about the past. For example, Lancaster Avenue was an old Indian path two thousand years ago and it goes for sixty miles. The Mill Creek was rebuilt in the 1890's. That is when it was built underground.

For the second group, we were selected to write a proposal for revealing and restoring urban waters in the Mill Creek neighborhood. Our school Mayer Sulzberger has a problem after a rainstorm. The north and south lunchroom of the school becomes flooded with about one foot of water. My proposal is located at the south part of 47th and Aspen Street. I had to create a water garden and a place for an outdoor classroom for Sulzberger students. On of my ideas was an outdoor lunchroom. We could eat there on sunny days. We realized that the only way we could make this fantasy into a reality is if we all participate and cooperate with each other. The third group had us write about what we have learned from September until June.
