Frederick Law Olmsted mentions that wetlands are "nurseries for song birds where their young will have protection from natural enemies. A wetlands in Mill Creek can become a safe habitat for birds, reptiles and amphibians.

 

James Audubon was an early American naturalist who painted wildlife. But he rarely finished his paintings. Instead, he would give a painting of a wild creature to an assistant who would draw the animal's habitat.
