Here students tell the story of the water cycle in Mill Creek . The beginning is watching the rain from the classroom window and carefully recounting the voyage voyage of raindrops to the Atlantic. Student photograph what they see of the movement of water in their neighborhood to illustrate the beginning of story. Later they can use maps to imagine what kinds of places the drops pass through The lost drop is water that does not make it to the Atlantic. It evaporates, is absorbed by trees,or is lapped up by a dog, or whatever the students imagine. Students will carefully observe and write about the actual details of water flow and will also speculate about what happens when water enters the sewer. They will be asked to describe qualities of water and its passage through the neighborhood, city and countryside through both words and images.
a game of doublets: By changing just one letter at a time to make a new word, change lost drop to last stop. For example: The o in lost is changed to a to make last. Making stop out of drop is much slower. How many new words do you have to make before drop becomes stop?
