Section
Scientists use sections to explain where animals and plants occur in wetlands. Here is a simple wetland section.
Sections are also useful because they show the height of plants and the depth of water. They can also show the different layers of the earth and what happens underground.
Here is a section of the pond at Aspen farms.
Redraw the section. Show some plants of different heights both on the shore of the pond and in the water. Show the pond lilies and their roots in the water. Look at how the cattails are planted. Draw them in. (Hint: they are do not grow from the mud on the bottom of the pond) Imagine what is beneath the soil around the pond. Draw where you see different animals or insects.
