Welcome to Bernie's homepage
I am currently a Principal Machine Learning Scientist at AWS AI Labs led by Bing Xiang. I lead a team of scientists and engineers, working on R&D for DevOps Guru, Amazon Forecast, and others. If you are interested in more about the research work in our group, see here.
I got my PhD in Computer Science from Tufts University in July 2013 under Prof. Roni Khardon. I work closely with Prof. Alan Edelman at MIT Mathematics Department on various topics in random matrix theory, and numerical linear algebra. Before coming to US, I graduated from the department of Computer Science of Tsinghua University in 2008 with a MSc. in Computer Science, and hold a B.A degree in Management Information System from Beijing Information Technology Institute (BITI) in 2005.
My research interests broadly include empirical and theoretical machine learning and random matrix theory, in particular:
- Time Series Forecasting
- Gaussian Processes, Bayesian Learning, Probablistic Graphical Models
- Online Learning Algorithms, Learning to Rank
- Statistical Learning Theory, Empirical Processes, U-Statistics and U-Processes
- Random Matrix Theory, Free Probability Theory, Symmetric Functions
