THE AMAZON RAIN FOREST

The Amazon RainForest

It helps sustain us, but it is dying.

Millions of acres of the RainForest are being destroyed by persons not looking at the long term effects of their actions. Thousands of animals are dying, thousands of trees and other plants are dying.

The overall quality of Earth's air is going down!

The time has come for us to develop proper strategies, using our intellect, foresight and common sense, which will stop - or at least slow - the degradation of The Amazon RainForest.

This is the Mission 2006 project at MIT.
And this is our Mission:

"To develop a way to characterize and monitor the well-being of one of the last true frontiers on Earth - the Amazon Basin
rainforest - and devise a set of practical strategies to ensure its preservation."

I am Ryan F. Allard, a freshman at MIT. I am involved with the Water Systems Section of this RainForest Preservation Project.
