MISSION 2006:
"Develop a way to characterize and monitor the well-being of the Amazon Basin Rianforest ecosystem and devise a set of practical strategies to ensure its preservation."
Team 6: The Water Systems of the Amazon Basin Rainforest
          Katrina Cornell
The goals of the water team include researching and analyzing past data from the Amazon Basin's various water ecosystems, characterizing these water systems, taking into account the effect deforestation has had on them, and comparing water systems from various geographical regions from the Amazon Basin region. Following this we will devise a model which would explain the outflow, inflow and storage of the Amazon water system. To plan for the future we must identify and figure out ways to monitor the water chemistry and chemical composition of the sediments of the water in the Amazon Basin water systems.
An important aspect of mission is discerning what changes in the environment are natural and what are the result of human development. We are particularly concerned with the water ecosystems, but will also analyze the effects that water has on other ecosystems in the rainforest. Hopefully in achieving these goals we will contribute to a feasable solution to our mission statement.
