• I finished my part of the abstract (geology, climatology) and proofread the whole proposal.
  
• I also met with Anna and her team to give her potential questions for her to ask during her travels in Ecuador this coming week.

October 30, 2004

       I met with Marty and Helene to work on the monitoring system abstract and complete any research related to this topic.  We nearly finished by 7:00, and each one of us will update the site by tomorrow with our assigned areas of the abstract.

       Minutes from today's team one meeting can be viewed here.  I am part of the subteam responsible for developing the monitoring system proposal abstract for our web site.  Marty, Helene, and I agreed to meet tomorrow from 3:00 to 7:00 to finish this.

October 28, 2004

• Bob sent us an article entitled "Loan Sought in Galapagos Rift," published in the Miami Herald today.
  
• Ecuador's minister of the environment, Fabian Valdivieso, asked the Inter-American Development Bank this week for a $2 million loan to relocate and/or retrain 1,000 Galapagos fishermen
  
• In September, park rangers went on strike after Edwin Naula, the park director who favored fishing limits, was fired
• Fausto Cepeda, pro fishermen, became director.
• Cepeda left only a short while later, and there is currently no Park director.

        Our coordination meeting included a talk by Anna on her D.C. experience.  Minutes can be viewed here.  I am going to talk with Anna and her team on Sunday night, hopefully giving her some questions that she can ask people during her trip to Ecuador next week.
