Mission 2016 Faculty, TA's & UTF's

Your Professor:

Professor Benjamin Weiss
Professor of Geology,
Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences
Room 54-814, 617.324.0224

Your TAs:

Erin Shea was born and raised in central Ohio.  She is a 5th year graduate student in the Bowring Lab studying the plumbing of ancient volcanoes.  This is only slightly less exciting than studying the plumbing of active volcanoes.  Erin enjoys hiking and looking at rocks.   Annie Bauer is a second-year grad student at MIT in Sam Bowring's lab. She uses isotope geochemistry to study the early earth. Her undergraduate degrees are from the University of Washington in her native Seattle, where she studied Geology and French.

Your UTFs:

In a perfect storm of caffeine and bubbles, Linda Seymour (and her love of bridges) was born. While she's not UTFing for Mission, she can be found jumping rope in the Next House Courtyard or being her usual scatterbrained self with her Nextie Family.   Rebecca Kekelishvili is a Course IV-2 (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) sophomore. She made it through Mission 2015 and is looking forward to being a UTF for the Mission 2016 group.

Jaclyn Wilson is a senior from Long Island, New York. Ever since Mission 2013 (Carbon Capture and Sequestration) she's been studying course 1E (environmental engineering). She's Sisterhood Chair of Pi Beta Phi, as well as multiple roles in Dramashop and Next Act like secretary, producer, and assistant director. In her "spare" time, she does a lot of theatre, reading, and chilling with friends.    Jaya Narain is a sophomore from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She is currently studying mechanical engineering and is particularly interested in its applications to biology. When she is not UTFing, she likes to spend her time working on projects for Engineers Without Borders, the marine robotics team, and various other endeavors.

Ana Vazquez is currently a sophomore in the department of aeronautics and astronautics. She plays trumpet for the wind ensemble.

Samantha Hartzell is a Junior from Hudson, Wisconsin (and no, she is not a fan of cheese). She is currently studying environmental engineering, and enjoys trees, rowing, and music.

Nikki Neibloom is a sophomore in Course 20 from Weston, Florida. Aside from Terrascope, I am involved in the MIT Cheerleading Squad, the MIT DanceTroupe, Burton-Conner House Government and various student groups on campus. I am interested in biological research in agriculture and have used some of the topics I have explored in Terrascope to guide my research goals.   Lealia L. Xiong is a sophomore in course 8 (physics). She is from Connecticut and New Hampshire. After MIT, she'd like to go to medical school to learn how to be super cool and save lives. Outside of class, she is on the MIT Lion Dance team and the logistics commitee for MIT Techfair.

I'm Anisha Gururaj and I'm a sophomore in 10B with a minor in Energy Studies from St. Louis, MO. (yeah, Midwest!) In my (not-so) free time, I'm involved with a couple of Indian dance and music groups on campus, Engineers Without Borders, the Undergraduate Energy Club, and the MIT Energy Conference.   Hi! I'm Kit Haines, a 2015, a Math Major (with a strong interest in programming), an environmentalist, an activist, and an Australian. I live on Tetazoo, in East Campus, but am actively involved in pika, and ILG. I love cooking yummy (vegan) snacks, building random things, and learning what you guys have to teach me and come up with this year.

Alison Schneider a senior in Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Science. Who co-hosts Terravoice, an environmental radio show on WMBR, with fellow Terrascope alum Maria Cassidy. She's also pretty involved with acting and tech for MIT theater groups.   Julia Kimmerly is a junior from rural Vermont. She is a Course 2A (Mechanical Engineering) major with a concentration in energy and is also pursuing Philosophy. Mission taught her how to use every second of an MIT day, so besides UTFing, she fences and is a part of the FSAE race car team.

Jessica Fujimori is a junior majoring in Earth, Atmospheric & Planetary Sciences (12) and Science Writing (21W). She loves rocks, writing, languages, and Terrascope. Inspired by her experience in Mission 2014, Jessica is Director of Education of MIT Fighting World Hunger. She spent her summer volunteering in Tanzania amidst cows, dust and red-sweatered schoolchildren.

Brianna Coston is an undergraduate student in Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In doing Mission 2015 in the Fall of 2011, she developed a connection to Terrascope and has continued to to be involved through going on the spring break trip to Costa Rica and becoming an Associate Advisor for Terrascope students. She has also worked with the MIT Women’s community center, the Margaret Cheney Room, and with the MIT Office of Engineering Programs.
