Research: - Investigating the possibility of laying fiber optic cable from the shore out to our research facility along the bottom of the ocean floor. - Researching sonar positioning systems in an effort to create a sort of "underwater GPS" via a network of sonar transponders. - Looking into how we might accurately map the ocean floor around the station in order to provide better navigation data to the vehicles. - Reading up on computer networking technology for use inside the habitat. Current plans include a star-network topology with a central server located in the control room. Workstations would be located in the labs for data processing and computational work. Terminals would be located in the crew quarters.
