15.402ab Finance Theory II

Overview

The main goals are to 1) teach students to apply some of the basic concepts learned in 15.401 to actual investment and financing decisions; 2) introduce a number of new concepts and techniques, again, with an emphasis on  application to real corporate finance problems. Approximately three-quarters of the class discussion are devoted to case discussions; the other one-quarter follows a lecture format.

The main topics to be addressed are 1) investment valuation using discounted cash flow techniques; 2) financial policy, including financial planning, capital structure, and instrument selection; 3) a series of integrative special topics, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and capital market misvaluations.
