Laundry List of Recent Lecture Topics

To focus yourself during this assignment, here's a quick list of the topics for lectures 11-13:

Error Transfer Function (ERTF(s))	Use to evaluate steady-state system response to step or ramp input.
System Type	# free integrators. Determines whether steady-state error will be zero, finite or infinite.
Transient Response specs	Rise time (to given % of final value), settling time (within given % of f.v.), peak time, peak value, etc
Dominant Poles	The transient response is essentially limited/defined/dominated by the 'slowest' pole(s), typically.
S-plane Performance Specs	Location in the s-plane determines whether or not you meet (transient) specs.
Rate feedback vs. PD Control	Both use derivative action ('s') [w/ a gain]; effect is similar to damping. (Note PD also adds zero.)

Problem set #6 largely aims to reinforce these concepts. As usual, this problem set will incorporate both themes from recent lectures and basic (key) concepts you learned in 2.003 and 2.004.

In this case, a key idea you will need to recall is:

How to relate the net torque of whatever spring-mass-damping elements may [or may not] exist in the rotary system to the pressure force in the hydraulic motor. As suggested, the most direct method is to equate Power transduced from one domain to the other.
