With lectures 11-13, we have plunged back into our analyses of controllers. To date,
we have looked at:
1. Proportional (P) control [pre-quiz#1]
2. Proportional-plus-derivative (PD) control
3. Rate feedback control
4. [Proportional-plus-Integral control (PI)]
5. [Proportional-plus-Integral-plus-Derivative control (PID)]
2 and 3 [above] are similar, in that each incorporates derivative action along
with a proportional gain. This problem set essentially focuses on:
The similarities and differences between rate feedback and PD control
The effects of a 'free integrator' (i.e. the System Type) on system performance.
* While working on this [and other] problem sets, keep in mind the TOPICS recently
covered. You would be remiss not to expect that many keys points made in lecture
will be illustrated in the corresponding homework - and that those on which we seem to focus in the
problem sets will in turn be the essential focus of the remaining quiz (and final).
As mentioned, your most important resource for this problem set will be the distributed lecture
notes from Oct.24 and Oct 26 (available from Lori in 3-144).
