Locker

One of the key procedures in the game is to make players trigger he vacuum and feel like getting the money when connect the hose to the right locker on the wall. The locker itself should not only shape like the real locker, but also be able to identify the matched hose, both geometrically and electronically.

The basic module of the locker goes as follow with standard size of 12.25*7.5*1 inch in 3 dimension.

Three types of locker shapes are designed to correspond to the 3 types of hoses: 1.2-in wide hexagons, pipes with 2.5-in OD and 0.9-in OD respectively. The three lockers are shown in the panel below. All the keyholes are made by laser cutting on the fume board.

Keypads and LED screens are also put on the top surface of the locker along with keyholes. The LED screen is a key hint in the game. The left screen shows the starting time when the owner opened the locker last time and the right screen shows the ending time when the owner closed the locker. The longer the duration is, the more amount of treasure the locker has. These parts are all made by the 3D printing to deliver desirable dimension accuracy and surface feature. We use the FDM machine Ultimaker 3 to print these parts under layer thickness, or resolution of 0.2mm. Acrylic painting is then used to paint numbers and characters. The parts are shown below in details.

Sensors to identity the hose is inside the locker. Two types of sensors are used in the design: physical button and RFID reading. The physical button is a switch made by the ADI. It is put under the top surface of the keyhole and triggers the fan in the vacuum when it is pushed. The surface above the button is not glued firmly to avoid keeping the switch triggers under load pressure. The RFID reader is to couple the RFID reader inside the locker and the RFID button on the tip of the hose. The reader is under the keyhole, too. When the hose approaches the keyhole with the matched button, the RFID reader is activated and sends signal back to the vacuum to start the fan and increase the amount of money shown in the LED screen of the vacuum. Both the physical and the RFID reader are shown in the following figures.

The overall structure has 3 layers. The top layer is the fume board with keyholes cut and LED screens and keypads pasted onto. The middle layer is a hollow paper board separating the sensor from the top surface. The bottom layer is the thick foam board with hole to contain sensors. The structure could be seen in the following image. Then the side of the locker is wrapped with metallic sticker.
