Looks Like Model

Can we make convincing fire?

We researched many ways of making artificial fire. The most common was using wind to move fire colored fabric. However, we felt that this looked really fake and wanted to try to make a momre realistic looking fire, that would be more interesting to look at than just cloth.
The final sketch model uses an LED strip and a small fog machine to create colored smoke. Internally, a plastic cup holds the fog machine and some water so that the fog can be generated.
The design of the torch overall is based on older styled torches. The center column is brown to represent wood, and the grey strips are the metal that holds the torch in place. However, the entire thing is one piece so that adventurers cannot remove the torch from the wall.

User Feedback

Overall, users were very excited about the look of this torch. They enjoyed watching the fog bubble, and they immediately recognized that it was a torch.
One user even stated, "I like it, I like it, I like it."

Take Aways

Moving forward, some way to refill the water has to be implemented. The current setup allows for an hour and a half of use before needing to refill the water.
To ensure that the torches are durable, adventurers shouldn't be able to stick their hand in and grab the fog machine. Therefore, a mesh screen could be placed near the top of the torch so that the fog can come out but people couldn't stick their hands in.
