The Tale of Veronica the Ring

One day when the King couldn't take the cotton balls falling out of his ears, he issued a decree:
There must be peace and quiet in the castle.
My nerves can no longer take it.
Since my wife, her Royal Highness, has died,
my daughter will not stop crying.
Anyone who can make the Royal Princess stop crying,
will be rich beyond their wildest dreams.
Anyone who tries and fails,
would be brought to the Royal Head-Chopper-Off-er.
*

Although Veronica was in the room at the time, she was too busy thinking about how wonderful she was to hear the decree. So when all the people came with their various gadgets to help stop the Princess' tears, Veronica could be heard saying, "Look at all these things that these people are bring to me. How could the Royal crib say I am not special?"

People did bring many kinds of strange things to try to cheer up the Princess. Clowns brought balls to juggle, dogs to do tricks and balloons to make funny animals out of. Wizards and magicans brought magic wands and special cloaks to make things appear and disappear or cast some special incantations to stop the wailing Princess. Inventors brought their gadgets such as lifelike dolls that ate and laughed and even a talking box from America that they called a television.

With all of these strange objects, the Princess did not stop crying. She wasn't impressed. She still kept crying just as loudly.*

Veronica wasn't impressed by the objects either. "I am better than all these things. Still I cannot fault these people for trying."
