I had the most unusual experience the other day. I went to hear a child play the violin. He was a most remarkable boy and played excellently. I enjoyed the performance immensely. Afterward, I came across three women talking, one bag lady and two prostitutes. They were all talking so naturally and kindly that I just had to stop and watch them. Yes, I know, it's not what I usually do and it was raining quite hard, but I was completely entranced. Then a man come up to them and asked how to get to Carnegie Hall. Without a moments hesitation, the crazy old bag lady said "Practice". Our eyes met, the prostitutes, the bag lady, the man, and I, and we all burst out laughing at the same time.
Then the bag lady did the strangest thing. She came right up to me and looked at my hair, you know, that terrible thing that Bucci did with one side short and one long? Well, this person came right up to me and offered me her umbrella hat. She said I needed it more than she did, because one side of my hair was starting to shrink. And do you know what the strangest thing was? I took it.
