A brief, unscientific survey of the University of Chicago, the University of Washington, and the London School of Economics shows that LSC movies are a unique experience. No where else do they chant, as the previews for the next week's movies come on, "Next Saturday and Sunday, IN STEREO!" No where else do the hordes, angered by a projection mistake, cry out, "LSC. . . SUCKS!" Dawn Perlner, LSC's Night Director and generally the person in charge of making sure the movies run smoothly on a night-by-night basis, describes the LSC culture as "definitely different" from other schools and from mainstream movie watching. The movie-going masses at MIT are a real part of this culture, but making the movies happen on a weekly basis takes more than quirky traditions. It takes, in fact, in addition to the usual student organization officers, a Publicity Director, a Refreshments Director, a Projection Director, and a Night Director. (LSC also had a Classics Director, who handles the classic film series in conjuction with the MIT literature program; and there is a Lecture Director. LSC still accomplishes their original purpose - bringing important lectures to MIT - several times a year.)
