As soon as the bell is rung, people come flooding into the dining room from all directions. Books are left lying on tables, and children are set aside. Everyone grabs a seat at one of the tables and starts talking. People mill around getting drinks and sharing salad dressing. Each table fills before the next table is started. Everyone gets along, so there isn't a lot of picking and choosing of tables. "There really isn't anyone here that I really don't like," Rich, the president says. As everyone settles down the waiters bring out trays of food. It's chicken parmegiana night, and the trays are piled high with chicken, sauce, and spaghetti. When a waiter enters the dining room, tables immediately begin shouting his name to get his attention. The table that shouts his name first or loudest is usually rewarded by getting served. |
