If you want to get involved in SAA (Student Art Association) classes, sign up NOW!! Applications are available 4th floor student center at the SAA office (where most of the art classes are held also). Classes don't start until late September or early October but sign up is first come first serve so do it NOW! Lots of cool classes in drawing, photography, studio, and ceramics!!!
P.E. Lottery ended today at 1:00pm-opps! Don't worry, there is always a list of unfilled classes... just go to duPont desk. Go ASAP.
Athletic cards are $20, also available at duPont desk. you should purchase one if you plan on using MIT facilities ... (gossip: this summer, they raised the price $30 to $50 for like 3 days.. Students threw a fit and the price went back down.... they claimed that this was to help pay for the *new* multi-athletic
complex... wait, $30 bucks from every student would buy like 2 columns or
something....) (okay, so we thought this was funny...)
If you need to switch recitations, go to the department office for that subject. Like, if you need to change recitations for 8.01, go to the Department of Undergraduate Physics and ask to switch. They are usually really open. Particularly if you don't want one too early or late. It almost always works out well.
Hobby Shop is in the basement of Dupont (room W31-031). For a $17 fee you can use all their equipment for wood working. Make a cool loft for your room, or shelves, or whatever you want. Call KEN STONE 253-4343
(kenstone@mit.edu) to find out more, cause you have to take a saftey seminar to work there. Supposedly it happens every Wednesday and it is quick and easy.
For casual ballroom dancing, every Sunday the ballroom dance team teaches a different type of dance at three different levels and then follows with a general dance. It is pretty cool and interesting if you want to learn to dance. This SUNDAY at 1 is CHA-CHA lessons! Come learn. It will be great fun! Becca: "My boyfriend and I took it and it totally rocks. And you don't need a partner. It is very very cool. And pretty cheap. I think $3 a lesson. I think it is meeting in Lobby 13. I will let you know otherwise."
Don't be afraid to get away from MIT. Lots of cool stuff is available outside of the campus. You can get into the MFA and the Museam of Science FREE with your ID. Both are a LOT of fun.
Don't be afraid to get away from the city. One of the great things about the northeast is the ease of travel, and cheap. You can take the train(cheap) or bus (even cheaper) to pretty much anywhere. Both of them leave from South Station, which is the last stop on the Red Line of the T so it is quite convenient. For a bus, you don't even need reservations. Just show up and buy and ticket and you are off. And since Boston is so big, there are TONS of times to go and come. TONS. And it is cheap. It is nice to get away. Trust us. Oh, and if you need a place to stay in NYC, we have a friend who recently graduated (yes yes.. this might sound very sketchy.. but we vouch for him) who is living in the upper east side and you can stay with him for free... obviously, let us know in advance....Also, another cheap way to travel is AirTran, a low-budget air line. Basically, you can fly standby to anywhere they fly for $20 one way. They fly to New York, Philidelphia, Atlanta, Louisville, and obviously Boston. Don't ask why they are so cheap... they just are :)
Run for Freshman Class Council! President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, Social Chair(s) (up to 2 as a team), Publicity Chair(s) (same deal).
Packets are available in the Undergraduate Association Office
(4th floor stud center - W20-401). You just need 110 signatures from your
classmates to get on the ballot... and then some light campaigning.. light
can meaning anything from a little to alot, or the use of light colors..
or maybe a light parade... okay that wasn't funny. we're laughing...

Discount Shopping- GOVERNMENT CENTER!!!!! (A stop on the red line ) FILENE'S BASEMENT!!!! If you don't miss ANYTHING from MIT you will still miss Filene's Basement when you are away from Boston. Normal clothes that get discounted more as the days go by. It is the ONLY genuine basement that discounts by day. You get AMAZING bargains. Next door is Marshalls, also cheap clothing, and across the street is Payless Shoes. As for plastic and weird stuff like that, it is really hard to get to without a car. Still, if you have a car, there is Bentlee's and K-mart around. Ask if you want more specific instructions but this is getting long so I will spare you.
Stuff to make sure we give you at seminar: UROP Guides (soon), Schedule Cards, Add/Drop forms (closer to add date), Athena Cluster locations (when we
figure this out for ourselves... kidding), oh, and some MORE MIT bumper
sticker things.. for the cars that we all have here in Boston... (yes. later).
