• I think the material taught matches up pretty well with the chemistry from high school. I didn't feel I was learning the same material over again, nor too out of reach for me.
  
• I loved this class. The topics covered were great because it was not just a review of AP chemistry.

• There should not be 5.111 for people who have taken AP Chemistry. This class was a complete review.
  
• Some topics were covered too fast. I only had one year of high school chemistry.
  
• It was a bit difficult for me after having only one year of high school chemistry.
  
• This class is geared far too much toward students who already have a very strong background in chemistry — not all of us do!
  
• Splitting 5.11 into 5.111 and 5.112 was a good idea.

In my (typical) high school honors class we even went further in some areas. There should have been some concrete material to help me prove to myself that I should take 5.112 (If I had a second chance). A 12-unit course should require more than 2 hours of work.
  
• I had a very weak background in chemistry (only one year — and looking back I don't think I learned much) and because of this I felt the class moved quite fast. A lot of the knowledge that was assumed we knew (i.e. in the first unit) I didn't really know. I know a lot of the students in 5.111 took AP Chemistry and as a result found the class easy. As a result I felt continually behind and struggled a lot with the class. I would encourage the instructors to really encourage students who have taken 2 years of chemistry to take 5.112.
  
• Much of it went slow for me because I had learned most of it before. However, if I had not been familiar with most of the material, the pace would have probably seemed too fast and almost overwhelming. I really regret not having taken 5.112 because I feel I would have learned a lot more.
  
• This class, as with most other freshmen classes, is geared towards student who already have strong background in the subject matter and don't really give anyone else much of a chance to do well.
