Quiz 2 Results

The grade distribution for Quiz 2 is displayed below.

As can be seen, the mean for this quiz was quite low. Don't be alarmed if your grade was low on this quiz. We will be taking the mean into consideration, so your relative position is more important than your absolute score.

We will be distributing quiz grades in the near future, ie. with time to spare before drop date. After you receive your grade summary, feel free to contact us if you are concerned about your overall grades.

All other tutorials remain unchanged.

Incorrect Chapter 7 Section Numbering

The section numbering for chapter 7 in the course notes (both printed and online) starts at 7.10, rather than 7.1. As such, the section numbering throughout this chapter is incorrect. The assigned readings for this week and next refer to the sections as listed on the Chapter 7 table of contents, which is correct in both section and page numbers.

Updated Recitation 11 Notes

A new version of the Wide-Area Internet Routing notes for Recitation 11 is available here. This is an update to the notes in the course packet. It is similar in content to the previous notes, so it's okay if you've already read the old version. You may skip the appendices in these notes, and skip or skim sections 3.3 through 3.5.

Course Notes PDF

A message from the authors of the 6.033 course notes:

The printed copies of the book are defective: the page numbers are missing, and certain symbol characters are rendered as blanks. The original PDFs do not have these defects. To address the problem, we have posted those PDFs for downloading, in a protected directory that requires an M.I.T. personal certificate. Please respect the copyright and do not distribute these materials beyond the spring term 6.033 class. Thanks.

These PDFs also include a chapter with solutions to the problem sets from the class notes, which you may find useful.

March 5, 2009

Feb 6, 2009

Therac Memo Clarification

There was some confusion about the use of the term "re-design" in the Therac One-pager. We have clarified the memo to refer simply to the system "design" - you may discuss the testing and safety analysis both of the original Therac-25 design and/or the later design modifications.

Since your submission is limited to only one page in length, you should not include any figures/graphics or attachments.

Feb 5, 2009

Friday Sections

The rooms for Friday tutorials and writing program lectures have been posted to the Sections page. As a reminder, you may attend either tutorial (1pm or 2pm) held by the same TA as your assigned recitation.

Students who miss the Friday writing recitation section will be required to make it up. Don Unger will run a review session on Monday 9 Feb, at noon, in 12-132. For students who can't make that time, Mary Caulfield will have a dedicated office hour on Monday 9 Feb at 4pm, in 12-113. Students who want additional information or help may also attend these sessions, or email the writing program lecturer attacted to your section.

Feb 4, 2008

Important: Section Assignments Posted

Please look up your Recitation Assignment. You must go to your asssigned recitation. If you cannot attend your assigned recitation due to a serious conflict, email the head TA. If your name does not appear on this list and you wish to take 6.033, attend any section for tomorrow and email the head TA.

Your recitation section TA will be the one teaching your tutorial. For Friday tutorials and writing recitations, attend either the 1pm or 2pm section in the appropriate room assigned to your TA at that time. All TAs teach at both 1pm and 2pm.

We are still awaiting the location of Friday tutorial rooms from the registrar. These will be posted on this page when they become available, in the near future.

Feb 3, 2009

Recitation Preferences

Don't worry if you missed out on recitation sign-up today. There will be a stack of recitation sign-up sheets at the back of the lecture tomorrow, Feb 4. If you haven't already done so, make sure you fill one out and return it at the end of class.

Feb 3, 2009

Course Packets

Course packets are available to be picked up from CopyTech (11-004). The cost is $42, payable with cash / check / credit card / tech-id account. Since the packets change from year to year, it is not ok to use last year's packet.

Jan 29, 2009

Important: First Day of Class

6.033 begins on Tuesday Feb 3 with a recitation. You should ignore the recitation room and time assigned to you by the registrar. Note that not all of the recitation rooms listed by the registrar will be offered, but all timeslots will be available. Please consult this list of available recitations and go to one of them on Tuesday, February 3 (the first day of classes). During recitation, you will be given recitation preference sheets on which you can list your recitation and tutorial preferences. By 10pm on Wednesday February 4, we will assign a binding list of recitation assignments for the rest of the term, and post them to this page.

Jan 27, 2009

Lecture Times

6.033 lectures will be at 2:00pm. Some versions of the course schedule from the registrar said MWF3, but MWF2 is correct.
