Temperature is very important. Glass must be hot in order to work with it in a controlled manner. The color of the glass gives away its temperature: if it is hot, it will glow. ‘Cold' glass can still be hot to the touch, capable of causing serious burns, but to the experienced glassblower, if the glass is not moving – soft and flopping around on the pipe – it is cold.
